EVA AIR BR-27 SFO~TPE

EVA AIR BR-27 SFO~TPE

Hey everyone! Welcome to my first post on EVA AIR 101's Trip Reports.

~June 2012~
Flight: San Francisco (SFO) - Taipei (TPE)
Airline: EVA Airways
Flight No.: BR-27
Aircraft: Boeing B777-300ER
ETD: 5:56pm(Local Time[SFO])
ETA: 9:59pm (Local Time[TPE])
Cabin: Elite Class
Flight Time: 12hr 57min

To begin with, I arrive at San Francisco International Airport at around four o'clock in the afternoon on a sunny day in June. There was a long queue for economy class passengers, but I was able to swiftly check in with the "Elite Class Passengers Only" line. After check-in, I headed for the food court, where I had a pre-flight snack. At around five o'clock, I made my way to gate 101. When I arrived, I came face to face with the nose of the jumbo Boeing B777-300ER. Boarding call was made about 30 minutes before the ETD. I was cordially greeted by an EVA Air flight attendant, and she showed me the way to my seat.
Here's my seat(I believe it was row twenty something)

The adjustable headrest was great!

Push back commenced at 5:56 pm. We then made our way towards Runway 28. There were mostly domestic planes taking off (as shown in the bottom two pictures).

Delta Boeing 757 Takeoff
Our takeoff from KSFO was a bit bumpy. Right after leaving the
ground, our plane went through mild-severe turbulence. You can
see the takeoff from EvaAir101's Youtube video:

Around thirty minutes after our ETD, dinner was served. I opted for the chicken. It was actually pretty tasty.

Below are a few random pics after dinner...

Before it was time to sleep, I decided to first use the restroom...

When I came out, I saw this:  Mood lighting!

It only lasted for a few minutes. The mood lighting (+starlight cabin)
then moved on to premium laurel.

Starlight Cabin during nap time.

After about six hours, we crossed the International Dateline.

Below is a picture of the view outside while crossing the dateline.

Breakfast was served two hours prior to our arrival at TPE. Unfortunately,
I didn't get a snapshot of my breakfast. I believe it was rice porridge....

Right before breakfast was served.

The captain made a pre-landing announcement 35 minutes before touching down. We arrived at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 9:59pm(Local Time[TPE]). Overall, I was pleased with EVA AIR's Elite Class service. I highly recommend traveling with EVA AIR in Elite Class. The food, service, and comfort were superb!

Flight Overall Score: +9/10

but when it comes to the price, EVA always let me step back......

    1. Everyone has different opinions, but in my opinion, I believe flying in elite class is much better than flying in economy class. I know that the prices to fly in economy class is already very expensive, but if you have a surplus of money, or enough mileage, upgrade/fly in elite class! The advantages are(compared to EVA AIR's economy class): In elite class, you get priority check-in lanes at airports, earlier boarding, priority baggage, you get 61 lbs of baggage compared to economy class...50 lbs, you get an amenity kit(lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, and slippers), better meals, 5" more space between you and the seat in front of you, a slightly bigger seat, 22.3 degrees more recline, better adjustable headrests, adjustable leg rests, no middle seat, outlets, and my favorite...mood lighting. The disadvantages are: You get the same 8.4" PTV as economy class passengers, flight attendant service for elite class passengers is supposedly the same as economy class passengers, elite class seat comfort is about the same as economy class seats, you watch the same movies economy class passengers watch, and you can't move the armrest between you and your neighbor. ( There might be more advantages or disadvantages, but this is all I can think of.) My opinion: if you don't have a surplus of money, enough mileage, and don't enjoy watching movies onboard when flying and prefers to sleep through the flight, then fly economy class. Save your money for business class next time. :)
